2010: Odyssey Two

Hi everyone. Ryder here. Welcome to all the new subscribers.

That is the title of Sir Arthur C. Clarke's sequel, published in 1982, to his most famous novel "2001: A Space Odyssey" published in 1968. Have you noticed that science fiction writers, even the most brilliant ones, too often do not set their stories far enough in the future? Perhaps they have unreasonable expectations about the scientific process, societies' commitments to advancement and market forces.

For the rest of us, all of our expectations for the future, reasonable or not, were given a reality check in 2009 as the world economy struggled in recession. 2010 might be better. But most likely, 2010 will be year two of our Recession Odyssey.

I want to thank all of you for subscribing to the newsletter, and for supporting Torrid Art during a difficult and tumultuous year.

I hope you have a healthy and relatively prosperous 2010.

Now let's get back to one of life's simple pleasures - wonderfully distracting, beautiful women - and forget our troubles!

New photo set - Aimee easygoing jeans
88 photos

In the finest tradition of "forgetting our troubles" is Aimee in very comfortable, easygoing jeans.

This is a simple, restful location in a corner of a room with mostly bare walls. The setting seemed to compliment Aimee's easy, relaxed wardrobe.

I don't usually use corners like this. The space limitations preclude complicated lighting. I used a quick, three-light setup and couldn't have used more. But like the location itself, the simple light also fits with Aimee's easygoing wardrobe.

I'm happy when so many elements of a gallery work together.

New photo set - Shyla all the right places
95 photos

This was not my first choice of locations. I had selected another nearby location for this gallery. But when it came time to set up lights and get ready, I found that my choice just didn't work. I didn't like it. I had made a mistake.

Then Shyla suggested this location.

I like to think of the models as the fourth (sometimes fifth) member of my crew on shoot day. I often ask for their opinions. Shyla fulfilled her responsibility with flare.

What's with that crazy gallery title? It's a modified title of an old country music song, and alludes to Shyla's appearance in this gallery. And since she hails from a part of the US where country music is king, it seemed appropriate.

Torrid Art - Not the biggest, not the "best on the web"
Torrid Art is a hand-crafted website featuring the work of a single photographer. We are not big. We don't update every day. We don't have the "best on the web" of anything. We just have some really good, original stuff.
