About the Prints

The Photographs

These black-and-white prints are made from original photographs taken by our photographer, Ryder Aedan Perry. Some photos were taken as part of a gallery on Torrid Art. Others are unique art images found nowhere else.

The Art

Ryder's art is influenced by his background in documentary photography, environmental portraiture and erotic photography. Each art image documents a moment in the character's life. That moment may be special or mundane, epiphany or turmoil. It is a moment you might relate to in some way.

These art images are genuine photographs. They are not "photography-based digital art." The digital processing is minor, little more than contrast adjustment, or what you would expect in a traditional darkroom.

The Prints

These prints are made from digital files using state of the art equipment that uses laser light to expose traditional, black and white silver gelatin photographic paper. The exposed paper then goes through traditional chemical processing. The result is a true, black and white photographic print with a matte finish. They are not inkjet prints.

Unless otherwise indicated, the equipment used is the Durst Theta Lambda Lab at 400dpi. The paper used for black and white prints is Illford Coldtone Pearl RC paper. Color images are printed on Kodak Endura Matte paper.

Prints are available in the sizes indicated for each image. The images are printed on standard size paper and include a white border. The image shown above, My Estranged Self, shows the scale of an 8x11 image centered on 11x14 paper. Prints are sold unmounted and unframed.

With standard size paper and a wide, elegant white border, these prints fit perfectly and look great in standard, low-cost picture frames. Alternatively, the wide border ensures that they can be easily matted and framed by a professional.

The photo shown here, Sochee Mala 1, shows a 11x14 inch print, professionally matted and framed. Matting and framing like this are available by special request. The copyright symbol "©" and the words "Torrid Art" do not appear on the print. They appear on online display images only.

Prints signed by the model

We may, on occasion, offer prints signed by the model. Each of these prints is individually signed by the model with a pigment-based, archival ink pen, ensuring that the signature will last a lifetime without bleeding into the emulsion.

Signed prints are 8x10" (20x25cm) and include a 1/4" (6mm) white border.

Quantities of signed prints are limited.

Caring for Your Print

Before they are shipped, the prints are handled with care. In fact, they are only handled with cotton gloves, so you are assured of receiving a print without fingerprints or oils from skin. For longest life, we suggest you do the same and avoid touching the emulsion. Prints signed by the model may be handled by bare hands.

But it's your print and you can handle it as you would any photograph. You can stick it on the wall with tape, put it in a ready-made frame, or have it matted and framed by a professional using archival materials.
